SSRI Celebrates its 15th Anniversary
This year, 2020, SSRI celebrated its 15th anniversary! Though the decade and a half seems to have flown by, over these years from our humble beginnings we have attained a range important results and achieved several landmarks.
In late 2004, Dr. Mahaworasilpa and Dr. Kaseko – then at the Biophysics department of The University of New South Wales – founded the Institute with seed funding and assistance from the Stephen Sanig Foundation. Their vision for the Institute was to create an independent scientific centre that would undertake research into new methods for the prevention, treatment and management of under-served medical conditions … thereby improving health outcomes for all Australians.
The Stephen Sanig Research Institute (SSRI) was established at the Australian Technology Park, becoming part of the dynamic ATPi entrepreneurial network. With new facilities, a new team, and numerous supporters, SSRI was off to a promising start.
In December 2009 SSRI was approved by Innovation Australia as a Research Service Provider (RSP) capable of conducting R&D on behalf of others, enabling SSRI to broaden its focus from a purely academic one, towards a deeper engagement with the Aiustralia’s biotechnology industry.
We are proud of our committed team of scientists and support staff , who together continue to advance our research program to ensure that SSRI leaves an indelible mark on Australia’s medical research landscape for years to come.
