SSRI welcomes the National Defence College of Thailand
The National Defence College of Thailand is the supreme military college in the country. On 22 January 2007 the Stephen Sanig Research Institute welcomed a delegation from the college. The college’s major role is to foster cooperation between military executives and civilian authorities, in the areas of strategic planning and overseeing the country’s national security.
The delegation was led by Major General Attanop Sirisak, Deputy Superintendent of the College and was hosted by Drs. Galina Kaseko and Tohsak Mahaworasilpa, Executive Directors of SSRI, and accompanied by Mr. Suraphan Boonyamanop, Consul General of the Royal Consulate General of Thailand, Sydney.
During their visit, the delegates were briefed by Dr. Kaseko on the history of the Institute, the current research programs and collaboration with other research institutions. The Institute’s research program into meningococcal disease received particular attention. This was followed by Dr. Mahaworasilpa’s overview of SSRI’s technological portfolio, which includes a cell manipulation-modification technique, and its potential application for the production of medical products for prophylactic and therapeutic use.
The visit was concluded by a tour of the SSRI laboratory facilities with a live demonstration of cell membrane interaction and cell manipulation.
